Your hosts are Karen and Paul, as well as our gentle dog Toby and cheeky kitten Tinka.

We are friendly and sociable and make the best of the life that is given to us.

Paul worked as a heating engineer and installed many boilers and pipes when he was young.

He later used all his experience and knowledge as a heating engineer and boiler troubleshooter

He found diagnosing and fixing problems and errors much more rewarding

But he worked incredibly hard and long hours, and we had very little time to ourselves.

During my working life I have mainly worked in sales and administration.

The job I loved the most was as a technical sales representative for an alarm system manufacturer

I worked in Northern England and Scotland - every day was different and that made all the difference.

Despite the many miles I drove, I've never lost the thrill of driving and I still love it

Especially when I turn my music up loud.

Originally from the north of England, we left the UK in February 2016 to start a new life

We moved bag and baggage to the Canary Island of Lanzarote

We chose to live in the north of the island in the authentic village of Arrieta.

Life was busy as I worked full time but we loved it and were very happy.

Toby, came to us in the summer of 2016 as a 4 year old rescue dog. He had lived on a rooftop terrace in Arrecife the capital of Lanzarote.

He landed on our paws and blended into our lives so easily. He is such a gentle boy and only barks when the doorbell rings!

In truth, Toby is just watching over us and telling us that someone needs our attention.

Then came the pandemic...

Unfortunately, Karen lost her job as a customer service  advisor for a holiday operator

and we needed a plan B!

A lot of research later......

we bought Casa Rural Olivares in March 2022

It was a very different house back then, but we had a vision of turning it into a guest house.

With the help of excellent local contractors and craftsmen, our vision became a reality

Our dreams and hard work have paid off with such a wonderful transformation.

We have a photo album online with before, during and after pictures and I can't believe what we went through

but it was so worth it

Tinka came to us in April 2023, a tiny kitten rescued from the streets.

The lady who found him had to teach him to eat meat as he was too young to leave his family.

She strengthened him and I was the first in line to adopt him.

He's such a little character and great fun apart from the claws and teeth!

A lot of love and care has gone into creating Casa Rural Olivares.

We hope you love it as much as we do
